Fulkalender part 11 – 9 Dec
9 Dec – Stuff your face!
OK, we might not get the Nobel Price of fantasy for having a recepie again today but today is the day before the Nobel day here in Sweden so to honour it we made really nice vanilla buns. And besides it’s time to get busy practising gluttony to get you really prepared for all the eating at Christmas. You would think that vanilla buns are really hard to make. But it turns out it’s easy and that anyone can make them.
Here’s the recepie:
The dough:
2 dl full milk
25 g yeast
75 g butter
3 tbs sugar
1 egg
ca 8 dl flour
Filling:
3 dl vanilla custard
Garnish:
Melted butter
Sugar
Melt the butter and pour in the milk. Heat until finger warm. Add the yeast. And stir until the yeast has properly dissolved. Then pour in sugar and the egg. Stir. Work in the flour gradually until you get a nice dough that doesn’t stick to the bowl.
Let rest under a baking towel until it reaches twice it size.
Meanwhile make the vanilla custard, we used a box one, it needs to be a thick custard.
When the dough has finished resting work it into a large, flat, square and divide it into 20 different pieces. Put some filling on each square and pinch the sides together on each square to make it into a small bun. Put it on a baking sheet with the edge down on the sheat.
Let the buns rest for about 15 min.
Bake in a really hot oven for about 10 min.
Paste with melted butter and immediately roll the bun in sugar until it gets a nice coating.
Let rest a while, the filling can be really hot if you eat it right away.
Eat an enjoy and work at getting a Nobel Prize next year instead!
If you don’t like vanilla custard you can fill the buns with apple sauce, jam , chopped nuts and sugar or anything else you can come up with.
